How to Succeed at Love

Valentines day is fast approaching and maybe you're with a special someone or maybe you aren't, either way the question of…

 "Am I going to end up a failure with romantic relationships?"

Could be coming up. This just adds to the anxiety of this hallmark holiday because the risk of failing creates tension which is the opposite of what's needed to open our heart to enjoy loving romance with another human.

So how to succeed at love?

Easy: Redefine success

Have you ever considered what it means to have a successful relationship?

If you're like most people and dig deeper, the answer usually involved 1 or more people dying at the end. F*ck that's dark! No wonder this is so tough. What's the alternative to "till death do us part?" 

I propose the following criteria for a successful love relationship:

• Do you love the other person with awareness, discernment, and without expectation?
• Are you each able to grow to your fullest potential?
• Do you each actively work to communicate your desires and your boundaries?
• Do you each feel understood and respected and able to get your needs met?
• When the above are not met do you recognize it and work with it?
• When the desire to work it out is no longer there for either party, do you transform the nature of the relationship with love and kindness?
• Can you honestly ask yourself these questions each and every day?

In this way, relationships might not truly end, they just change form in ways the continue to support mutual growth. Just honestly answering these questions every day is success when it comes to love. In this podcast episode I talk more about this in detail.
