Enjoying Surgery in Cancun

Would you enjoy getting gum tissue surgery? Even in Cancun, Mexico? Probably not. This might not be something you'll ever have to go through, but we all have things in life that we'd rather avoid, but I'm going to share some tips on how these types of experiences can be as enjoyable as possible using the Relax, Recharge, and Reconnect lens. 

Relax - I knew I had to have this surgery done and so decided I'll have done the way I want it done. I found a world class doctor in a place I was excited to visit and I'd enjoy recovering in. I also asked lots of questions so that I could feel like I was in good hands. I also realized that I could choose when I did the procedure and also during the procedure I can make requests to take a break, have more numbing, whatever I need. All this allowed me to relax into getting this surgery done. 

Recharge - Often if we're sick or recovering we just want to sit around and have time pass. I've found that the time passes faster and the healing is better if I do activities that nourish me instead of just pass the time. I create a daily checklist of things that nourish my body and my spirit. For me, Qi Gong, Journaling, walking, silent meditation, and stretching do the trick. What activities would be appropriate for you when sick or recovering from something?

 Reconnect - Before a procedure or while sick, it's a great time to reach out to supportive friends and family to let them know what's happening and ask for a simple "Could you send me some good thought/energy/prayers/whatever?" Just to know that people are rooting for you can feel so good, and feeling good helps us to feel even better. There have been studies done that show that we have better health outcomes when others are thinking of us. 

Although I'm not wanting another surgery any time soon, I know that if I had to, I'd be able to relax, recharge, and reconnect and enjoy it as much as possible and feel even better afterwards. Do you have anything coming up? How can you find a way to enjoy it?
