On this episode, I have the honor of connecting with a friend from high school, Sam Holcombe. He and I were in the Ensemble Theater Company from 1998-2000 and shared the stage many times. In addition to being an incredible actor, Sam has a passion for hiking with thousands of sauntering miles under his belt. During our conversation, Sam tells stories from the trail revolving around the compassion of strangers, the clarity that comes from being in nature, how a smile can be a powerful and protective "weapon" of peace, and so much more.
This episode is dedicated to Daniel Seaman, mine and Sam's high school theater teacher who shared the gifts of love and laughter with everyone he met.

In this episode, Sam talks about how after walking for a few days, his mind becomes more clear and he enters into a meditative state where he can truly be in the present moment. This reminds me of a technique called "The Morning Pages" from "The Artist's Way". Basically, you write anything that comes to mind in stream of consciousness writing for a set number of pages or time. Just let it all flow out as tangled as your thoughts may be. After practicing this technique, it really clears the mind and frees up space for new ideas and present moment awareness. Thanks for listening and for your friendship.
