This week I had Jake Nitsche, Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Chicago Steel of the USHL on the show.
Jake talks about his own career in hockey and what he was able to bring into his new profession as a coach. Being able to relay a message of trust and confidence in his players has allowed him to build a culture with his team that players can truly be at their best as they don't have to worry about losing their spot on the team due to injury so they can be up front and honest with the staff.
.
Jake also goes on to give AMAZING advice to upcoming players. Don't try to train like the seasoned NHL veterans you know and love, work on developing your skill set and your training programs over time to ensure that you have mastered the fundamentals and basics of training before getting into anything more extreme. This is how those seasoned NHL veterans are built! They don't wake up one day able to do all the things you see now. They work for YEARS to develop those skills and abilities. If you are an up and coming player you need to do the same.
.
Jake also talks about the importance of BEING a professional. If you are truly trying to make it to the top level in sport, living a professional lifestyle includes taking care of your training not only in the off-season but throughout your entire season, working on your nutrition, your hydration, your recovery, etc. The longer you are working on all of these habits the further ahead you will be able to put yourself.
.
Thank you for tuning into the show this week. If you have listened to the show and have gotten something out of it I would greatly appreciate you leaving a rating or review wherever it is you listen, or sharing the show with a friend.
