Episode 36: Francois Landreville {What Are You Doing When Nobody Else Is Around?}

This week on the show I have international hockey coach Francois Landreville. When we talked about what creates a great athlete, Francois' answer was simple.  What are you doing when nobody else is around?
It is easy to convince yourself you're doing enough if you are showing up to practice & training.  However, when there is nobody there watching you, do you put in the same effort? The athletes that separate themselves are the ones who keep the same energy, effort, and focus no matter if they are with their team, one on one with their coach, or simply putting the work in by themselves.

One of the other big takeaways from this interview for myself personally was Francois' outlook on opportunity.  Every kid wants to play at the top level. Whether it is moving to Junior hockey, College hockey or even the pros. If you get an opportunity to play at a lower level, instead of looking at that as a snub, or "beneath you" understand... you have an opportunity! This is better than most players out there. Take that opportunity and run with it. Even if you are starting in division 3, control what you can & work your way up. Don't compare yourself to where someone else is at, simply focus on where you are at and enjoy it. Putting the emphasis on ONLY what you can control is how you can continue to work your way up.
