This week I have yet another Bishop's University Alumni on the podcast! Nicolas Lepore, scout for the Quebec Remparts & Owner of Triple Threat Hockey out in Quebec comes on to discuss both of these roles.
Nic does a great job in this interview of showing the importance of continual development as an athlete. No matter where you are at in your career there is always a next step, there is always more work that can be done.
One of the keys I found from this interview was Nic's typical questions when interacting with coaches of players he is scouting. Rarely is the discussion about performance. Generally the focus is attitude, work ethic and leadership. These are the players that coaches want on their team. Those who bring the best attitude and will help bring the team together.
Part of being a great athlete is not just what you bring to the sport every day, but what you bring to your LIFE every day.
Another important thing we cover is the evolution of a players role within their team. Coaches are here to help their athletes. As players develop their roles at new levels may change. You may go from a goal scorer to a lower line energy player. It can be tough to accept, but by changing your role and accepting that you fit into the team slightly differently than you have in the past you could be making the change that extends your career.
