This week my good friend Etienne Morin is on the podcast.  We talk about his football successes & mindset of taking ANY opportunity presented to you. We go through how Etienne developed from being a standout linebacker with Bishops University to his current coaching role & what he looks for and expects from his athletes today to help them be successful.

Some of the most important takeaways for myself personally;
* Be the best player for your team - It is not always about being the guy who has the ball, being the guy scoring the touchdowns... Every role on a team is crucial and if you are going to succeed in your career, figure out where you will be able to make the biggest contribution.  It is not always where you would hope or expect but if you stay open minded you will find your position.
* Seizing opportunities presented to you - Etienne's story of going from struggling 3rd string running back to starting linebacker and being able to extend his career through 5 more seasons is incredible.  Simply by offering his services on defence when he knew he wouldn't be playing on offence. Seizing opportunities to contribute to the team instead of staying hard headed and trying to battle it out where you are can literally make the difference of your career ending or continuing.
* Tough times make you better - If you step into the next level of your sport and feel like you don't belong... remember that is where everyone starts.  Hearing Etienne's honesty about his first practice at Cegep and his first practice at University are reassuring stories for young athletes.  Knowing that a player can go from feeling lost on Day 1 to being a team All-Star in year 3 is a testament to what hard work and perseverance can bring to an athletic career.
* Importance of a positive attitude - Bring a positive attitude to everything you do with your sport.  Your team has scheduled 6 am runs? Be the guy smiling and laughing throughout that time.  If you bring the energy, people are drawn to you. If people are drawn to you, you will naturally bring yourself into higher level leadership roles and be a player that your coaches want to see succeed not only with their team, but with higher level programs as well!
