In this episode, Dr. Berry challenges the common label "at risk" given to children from low-income households, those with incarcerated or addicted parents, or those who face challenging circumstances. Instead, she urges us to see these children as individuals with potential, calling them "children at promise". Dr. Berry shares her recent experience in one community and emphasizes the importance of recognizing our implicit biases towards children in the education system. She believes that if we change our language to focus on their potential, we will be more committed to providing equitable education opportunities for all children. Dr. Berry reminds us that it is our responsibility to ensure that all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential, and encourages us to join her in changing the language we use to describe them.
