In this episode of the Monument Health Podcast, we speak with Dr. Amid Bitar, a general cardiologist at Monument Health Heart and Vascular Institute, about the difference between cardiac arrest and heart attack, two potentially life-threatening conditions.
Dr. Bitar explains that a heart attack occurs when the blood supply to the heart muscle is blocked, while cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops beating. He discusses the symptoms of each condition, as well as the risk factors and treatment options. He also covers the importance of automated external defibrillators or AEDs.
Dr. Bitar also emphasizes the importance of calling 911 immediately if you or someone you know is experiencing either a heart attack or cardiac arrest. Early intervention is critical in both cases and can save lives.
