This is your Direction Not Perfection Talk: Accountability and coaching coming at you from your wine-loving dietitian. Do those last words, wine-loving and dietitian, leave you scratching your head wondering how they go together? That is my point. I need you to know, right from Hello, that I am not perfect. I’m real and I need balance to exist within my personal food and fitness plan and therefore feel passionate about helping you on this journey as well!!!

I poured my heart into writing a book and producing a weekly podcast for over a year and a half to share this passion with you. Looking back at the subjects and content of my book and those 80 podcasts I see a few recurring topics that speak to me so strongly that I pray that I can change your thinking on them. Your life will be better, and your children will see the positive effects and consider that to be normal. I will go to my grave happy, knowing I have done my part to change generational thinking. Tomorrow’s children will thrive, having a full understanding of just 5, game-changing, life-altering concepts.

GRASP

Note takers are game changers so pull out your pen and paper to truly GRASP the importance of these 5 concepts that I am about to lay down at your feet.

1. Garbage in, garbage out – Self-Talk plays an enormous role in your success. What you say to yourself, how you treat yourself and how you judge yourself will directly affect how you act. If you talk to yourself in a negative way, you will feel negative and if you feel negative, your actions will be a direct correlation of those negative feelings. Instead, feed yourself with positive talk which will ripple into positive feelings and actions.

2. Rewrite the rules to success. Turn away from diet mentality – how do you measure your success? Do your need to change your goals or do you need to change your success measures? It’s important to have a very clear understanding and way of measuring your success. Instead of hoping for the scale to show you if you have succeeded or failed, focus on the non-scale, feel good moments and wins you are accomplishing.

3. Accountability is the underpinning of everything that we do. Underpinning means building a strong foundation. Your foundation can always benefit from support. It is not weak to ask for help. It’s one of the strongest things you can do because it brings in consistency and structure.

4. Stop chasing someone else’s goals - Keep your eyes on your own paper - are you chasing someone else’s success? You are unique and your health journey needs to be individualized for you. It also needs to be tweaked and assessed often in order to work around life’s constant barriers

5. Permission to fail or permission to not be perfect – here comes your Direction Not Perfection part; something has to give! A perfect day of working out, eating healthy and finding “me” time sounds great in theory. But in reality, life finds a way to stick it’s foot out and trip up our best-laid plans. On any given day you can be a great mom, a great wife, a great friend and great employee, but you can’t be all of them on the same day, and that’s okay.

The GRASP acronym can take on several meanings. View it the way it is most helpful to you.

1. You may need to GRASP tightly to these recommendations. They represent everything I believe in to achieve success and be the best version of yourself!

2. You may need to break free from a GRASP that has been holding you too tightly… a habit or addict
