Limiting Beliefs:
I always think examples are the best way to bring to life any topic that feels a it intense or confusing. I’ll give you some limiting beliefs that I’ve heard from clients: (real people in real time):
- I will never lose this weight
- My whole family is overweight, I was destined to gain these pounds after menopause
- I don’t belong in a gym
- I’m not an athlete, never have been, never will be
- I don’t have the motivation to eat healthy
- You could never convince me to give up my diet coke
- I’m a terrible cook, I don't’ belong in the kitchen
- I’m too old
- It’s too late
- I have no self-control
- I have no willpower
- I’m too weak
- I’m too small
- What if I fail?
- I hate eating healthy
- I can’t stick to anything
- I lack motivation
- I have a slow metabolism
Let’s work through Limiting Beliefs:
1. Name a belief that is holding you back? (ex. I have a slow metabolism)
2. Where did this belief come from? (ex. possibly a parent)
3. How is this belief harmful? (ex. it takes away my hope for weight loss)
4. What is a better alternative for this belief? (ex. I don’t have a fast metabolism, but I have seen results when I pay attention to my food choices and movement)
