Many of my loyal followers have come up with a new verb. They say they are “Direction Not Perfectioning” something. Today’s podcast is an example of me living that verb. My goal for today was to introduce you to motivational speaker and author, RT Stokes. And yes, today you will listen to an interview with RT, it just won’t be with me. This is not what I envisioned but not only do you get to hear an awesome interview, it comes with a silver lining.
I had a great interview with RT and I couldn’t wait to share it. He is a motivational speaker, a life mission coach, a former navy veteran and submariner who uses submarine principles to help individuals rise to the surface and overcome difficulties. Unfortunately, the audio for that interview was corrupted and to play it in such a poor quality would have been a disservice to Mr. Stokes. After many unsuccessful attempts to salvage the audio track, I had a brainstorm. My dear friend and fellow podcaster Jennifer Zumbiel had interviewed RT last fall for her “Families that Stick Togather” Podcast. That interview was what motivated me to interview RT in the first place. Jennifer graciously allowed me to share her talk with RT, so I get to introduce you to my friend’s awesome podcast and her engaging interview of RT.
Jennifer’s mission with her podcast is to inspire and grow strong families through communication and faith! This interview fits both building strong families and Direction Not Perfection’s focus on being healthy and fit. RT explains the principles that keep a submarine running and performing its duties under the extreme pressure produced by deep water. He relates them to navigating through our lives and overcoming tremendous pressure to rise to be our best.
Submarine lingo from the interview and his book The Relentless Rise and how it relates to health and fitness:
“Aligning your purpose” - Goal setting
“Adjusting your guidance” -Who are your influences? How are they affecting your direction or your health journey?
“Activating your navigation” - Assuring that the efforts you are making are aligned with your ultimate goal
“Assuming control of your mission” - The necessary movements, adjustments and corrections you need to make, to stay on track.
