Dialed In For Success Episode 14—The Arrival Fallacy
Show Notes
I first heard of the arrival fallacy on the Internet Business Mastery  podcast
Comes from the book Happier by Tal-Ben Shahar
The Arrival Fallacy—“The false belief that reaching a valued destination can sustain happiness (p.25)
As you get closer to the event, you adapt to your environment and return to  your happiness setpoint

CORRECTION: at 3:30 into the podcast, I reference Jim Belushi as an example of the arrival fallacy. In fact, I meant to reference his brother John Belushi. Jim Belushi is alive and well.

Types of Arrival fallacies

The Happiness Arrival Fallacy:  I’ll be happy when….

Something has to happen before I will give myself permission to be happy

The Readiness Arrival Fallacy:  I’ll be ready when…

Something has to happen in order for me to feel worthy of having something in my life

The Enlightenment Arrival Fallacy:  I’ll understand when…

Something has to happen before I can be a better person or live life by higher values

All arrival fallacies are based on the idea that whatever you want to experience comes from outside yourself.
The decision to be happy or ready or enlightened is determined by a decision to have that in your life.
Take-Away
Make a decision to be happy or ready or enlightened. Regardless of what you want in your life, make a decision to have it today.
