Episode δ: Why Bellatrix Didn't Become a Death Eater Until "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"

Most Harry Potter fans know Bellatrix as Voldemort's lieutenant, his top Death Eater who is willing to do absolutely anything in his service. But what if she wasn't a Death Eater during the first Wizarding War? Voldemort claims that two Lestranges went to Azkaban for their service to him, but we know that there are actually three: Bellatrix, her husband Rodolphus, and his brother Rabastan. Is this just a typo, or is there something that fans of Harry Potter have missed all these years?
