Hi Dearest Lovely, welcome to episode 14 of the Dear Lovely Universe podcast! Thank you for tuning in.

Episode 14

If you’re here, I just want to give you a virtual *pat on the back and kiss on the cheek*. This podcast is specifically for high school students having a challenging time with bullying, not knowing your purpose, confused about what your priorities are, and want help from someone who has been there!

My high school experience was a real challenge, to say the least. From being suicidal, having mental breakdowns, moving out at 17, transitioning to 7 different schools, getting addicted to drugs and alcohol, and so much more – I learned quite a few things that helped mold me into the person who I am today. I feel very blessed to be able to share them with you.

In this podcast, I discuss:

  • When you love yourself, accept yourself, and are confident in yourself then it doesn’t matter to you what people say or think. The reason for this is because you know yourself and aren’t seeking outer validation.

  • The decision that changed my life forever – the moment that I decided not to live in pain anymore.

  • Everything is temporary, nothing lasts forever no matter how good or how bad.

  • The time to focus on the future is now. When I was in high school, I didn’t realize that I was wasting precious time.

  • Spend valuable time and energy into distractions/hobbies/occupations that make you feel good and are healthy for your future. There are positive and negative distractions, a part-time job is a great idea while drugs and alcohol are not worth it.

  • It’s better to be alone and get to know yourself than to surround yourself with crappy friends. This all goes back to getting to know the real you. Spend time alone in nature, with animals, at the beach, or whatever else you enjoy. This builds your self-confidence, self-acceptance, and self-love.

  • So much more!

Resources

To read the book I recommend in this podcast, tap this link: What Happens The Day After?: Messages From Adolescent Suicides. This is the book that I mentioned I had read. It is about adolescents that committed suicide who got in touch with a medium to write a book about how everything they had gone through was for a purpose. While I was reading this book, I resonated very deeply with so many of the stories and cried a few times. I highly recommend this book for every single person on Earth, but especially those who are or have been suicidal, are under immense stress from work or school or are feeling stress and pressure from being LGBTQ.

To visit Gary V’s Instagram tap here. If you don’t know who Gary V is, I definitely recommend checking him out. High school and further education is not for everyone, some people are meant to be entrepreneurs and Gary gives great advice for those who fit that category. A few of the things he teaches people are to hustle hard, not have excuses, put in the work, and not care about what other people think. He has books and a podcast as well!

  • When you love, accept, and are confident in yourself, it doesn’t matter what other people say.

  • One day, after enduring so much pain, I made a decision not to live in pain anymore.

  • Remember that everything is temporary. Focus on the future.

  • What other people say has everything to do with them and nothing to do with you. They could be going through something themselves or are getting bullied by someone else. Don’t stoop down to their level. End the cycle of bullying, send love and light their way.

  • It’s better to be alone than to have crappy friends. Spend time getting to know yourself, time with plants, animals, nature, and peace (meditation).

  • Put energy into something greater than just yourself or this moment. Volunteer, get a part-time job and study extra hard.

  • Occupy yourself with healthy distractions that make you feel good, happy, and benefit your future.

  • Drugs and alcohol are not worth it. They make you do things that you’d never do otherwise, lower your immune system, can make you sick, and can land you in jail – affecting your long term future.

  • Don’t give in to peer pressure. There are always trends to look and act in certain ways. That’s fine, but be yourself. Wear and act in a way that makes you feel good. Just because other people are doing it doesn’t mean that you have to.

  • Think about your future now. When I was in high school, I was thinking about where my next high was coming from and not what college I was going to apply to. I didn’t plan any of that stuff out. Don’t be like I was, have a roadmap and be outcome-focused.

  • You didn’t come this far to only come this far. You’ve been through horribly challenging days and you’re still here. You can and will get through this. I believe that everything happens for a reason and a purpose. You are the way that you are because of everything that you’ve been through and these experiences are doing the same thing – teaching you how to be a stronger person.

  • You’re special, have value, and are beautiful no matter what anyone else does or says.

  • Be grateful for every part of the process.
