September 2nd Fishing Forecast: Ideal Conditions in Sunny LA

Good morning, fellow anglers! It’s a beautiful September 2nd here in sunny Los Angeles. Today, the sun rose at 6:32 AM and will set at 7:15 PM. We’ve got some ideal fishing conditions on our hands, so get your gear ready and hit the water!

The weather for today is looking very promising with clear skies and temperatures ranging between 68°F in the morning to a comfortable 78°F by the afternoon. There's a gentle breeze coming in from the west at around 9 mph, making for a pleasant day out on the water.

Our tide report shows a high tide at 7:45 AM and a low tide at 2:30 PM. This tidal movement should create some excellent opportunities for catching a variety of fish, especially during the early morning high tide.

Yesterday was a fantastic day for fishing in our local waters. Anglers reported good numbers of calico bass and sand bass being caught near the breakwater. Some sizable halibut were also hooked closer to the shoreline. There were even a few impressive yellowtail catches offshore, weighing in between 10-15 pounds.

For those heading out today, here's a quick rundown on what’s been working best:

Lures:
1. Soft plastic swimbaits in natural colors for calico bass.
2. Butterfly jigs and surface iron lures for yellowtail.

Bait:
1. Live sardines have been the go-to for halibut.
2. Squid chunks for sand bass.

Now for the hot spots! If you’re targeting calico bass and sand bass, the rocky areas around the breakwater and the kelp beds have been quite productive. For halibut, head towards the sandy bottoms near Dockweiler Beach. For those after yellowtail, you’ll want to venture a bit further offshore, around the 14-mile bank.
