Good morning Anglers,

In Los Angeles today, September 4, 2024, we're looking at a promising day for fishing. The tide is incoming, with low tide occurring around 6:12 AM and high tide peaking at 12:42 PM. This provides a great window for catching fish during the tidal change.

Weather-wise, we're expecting clear skies with a gentle breeze coming in from the northwest at about 5-7 mph. The temperature will hold steady around 70°F, warming up to the mid-80s by the afternoon. Sunrise was at 6:32 AM and sunset will be at 7:25 PM, giving you ample daylight to reel in a good catch.

Yesterday proved to be a fruitful day, with anglers reporting a healthy haul of various species. The waters were teeming with action, with ample catches of yellowtail, calico bass, and barracuda. The yellowtail bite was particularly strong near the Point Vicente area, with several boats hitting their limits by midday. Calico bass were caught in good numbers around the kelp beds off Palos Verdes, with fish measuring up to 4 pounds. Barracuda were also quite active, especially in the Santa Monica Bay area.

The best lures of the day were surface irons and swimbaits, which proved irresistible to the yellowtail and barracuda. For the calico bass, soft plastic baits in darker colors like green and brown worked wonders. Live bait such as anchovies and sardines were also highly effective, especially when targeting the larger bass and yellowtail.

For those looking to get out on the water today, a couple of hot spots to consider are the aforementioned Point Vicente and the kelp beds off Palos Verdes. Another excellent location is Huntington Beach Pier, where anglers have been reporting good catches of surfperch and the occasional halibut.

Tight lines and happy fishing, everyone!
