Anglers Rejoice: Perfect Fishing Conditions in LA on August 29, 2024

Today is August 29, 2024, and it's a perfect day to hit the waters around Los Angeles. We had a sunrise at 6:23 AM and we can expect the sunset at 7:24 PM. The weather is favorable with clear skies, temperatures hovering around 75°F, and a gentle breeze at about 5 mph coming from the southwest—ideal conditions for a day out fishing.

The tides are showing good activity with a high tide at 7:10 AM and another around 7:50 PM, while low tides are at 12:30 PM and just past midnight. These shifts are bound to stir up plenty of fish, so planning your outings around these times could yield fruitful results.

Fish activity is strong today with water temperatures averaging in the mid-60s. Yesterday’s catch reports were quite promising. There was a decent haul of Yellowtail, averaging about 10-15 pounds each. The morning bite was particularly hot with a few lucky ones reeling in Calico Bass too. Some anglers also reported seeing schools of Barracuda, so keep your eyes peeled.

For those targeting Yellowtail today, live bait such as sardines and anchovies have been particularly effective. If you prefer using lures, try surface irons in blue and white or green and yellow—the fish seem to be drawn to these colors recently. For Calico Bass, plastic swimbaits in natural colors are your best bet.

A couple of hot spots to consider: head over to the Santa Monica Pier. It's been buzzing with activity and is an excellent place for catching a variety of fish, including halibut and surfperch in addition to Yellowtail. Another great location is the Palos Verdes Peninsula, especially around Rocky Point. The underwater structure there seems to be attracting a lot of baitfish, drawing in predators.
