Anglers Reel in Big Catches Across LA Waterways on August 30, 2024

Good morning anglers! Here's your fishing report for Los Angeles on August 30, 2024. The sun rose at 6:24 AM today and will set at 7:23 PM, giving you plenty of daylight to reel in some big ones. We’re seeing a tidal range with the low tide at 4:15 AM and high tide at 10:05 AM. Another low tide is expected at 4:33 PM and high tide again at 10:53 PM.

Today's weather is looking favorable for fishing with partly cloudy skies, temperatures ranging between 68°F to 82°F, and light winds at around 5-10 mph coming from the southwest.

Yesterday's fishing activity was solid with anglers reporting good catches of a variety of species. Inshore, the action was bustling with schools of Yellowfin Croaker and Surfperch. Anglers were also having success with Calico Bass and Halibut, particularly in the early morning hours before the higher tides.

Offshore, the thrill was all about Yellowtail and Bluefin Tuna. The Yellowtail were particularly active around the Catalina and San Clemente Islands. The Bluefin Tuna showed up in good numbers, especially for those daring enough to venture further out into deeper waters.

Popular hotspots have been the Santa Monica Pier and Redondo Beach Pier for inshore fishing. If you’re looking for bigger game, try heading out near the Catalina Island or the San Clemente Island.

As for the best lures, anglers found success with swimbaits and spoons for inshore catches. For Yellowfin Croaker and Surfperch, natural baits like sand crabs and bloodworms were the go-to. When targeting Calico Bass and Halibut, jerkbaits and plastic grubs did the trick.

Offshore, trolling lures like feather jigs, glow-in-the-dark spoons, and live bait such as sardines were effective for catching Yellowtail. For the Bluefin, larger poppers and stickbaits brought in the beasts when topwater action was hot.
