Episode 011 - Nerdin' Out at Planet Comicon 2019 (alone)

Hey all,

I know it's been straight up ages and ages and...that's enough. It's been far too long since I've put up a new episode. So, I've rectified that.

In addition, this here podcast is due for an overhaul. I'm thinking that it's time to just come clean and plan on admitting that it's gonna just be me on here. If/when I have other people on, they'll be guests and that's just the icing on the cake right?

Mostly, though, it'll be me and I'm also working on getting a home office studio set up so that I can produce some videos of myself ranting on and on about a variety of things I'm into. New tech, music, movies, comics, etc........

So, there ya go as far as the reboot goes. Still the same website, podcast name, and all that shit. Semi new situation though. I think it's gonna be a blast and I look forward to producing some cool stuff for you. At least it'll be cool to me right?

For this episode:

I was pretty upset at not going to Planet Comicon again this year. Used to be we went as a family every year, but with the wife's achilles tendon surgery rehab still happening, it wasn't gonna go down again this year. After a quick discussion, though, we decided I'd go solo for a few hours on Sunday.

Gotta say, it was great! I just walked around with my bluetooth earbuds in ear on "pass through" mode the whole 3+ hours cranking the "Viking Blöd" playlist on Spotify.  Got that sucker, all 461 songs, downloaded locally on my phone. That helped so much too as Planet Comicon is a fucking madhouse now. Total insanity!

Well, mostly it was just about people watching, but if you know me then you know a few things I might've been after. Marvel Super Specials are some of my favorite items in comic history. They were a big deal for me as a kid and I absolutely adored them. Still do. So, I was on the prowl. But, first things first, I needed a new "Hawkman" tee.

After that, though, I was looking and looking at pretty much everything in addition to comics. That's a good thing too, because there's not a ton of comics there to be honest. There's a lot of shit that's big in pop culture because of comics though. Video game tourneys and cosplay have overtaken the event for sure though. Makes for fun people watching!

I ended up happening across a table from a small comic vendor, though, that had something I've always wanted. I'm not overly concerned with mint condition and all that stuff. I just want it. Man-Thing #1 was right there in front of me and for a cray cray low price. I couldn't believe it. Of course, being the neurotic I am, I kept walking around and returned to the booth about 6 total times, even started to leave and went down the escalator then back up before just buying it. I also snagged Moon Knight #1 (1979) for super cheap.

And that's about the extent of it. I did snag a sweet Deadpool charm bracelet for the wife too.
