Today we are joined by Lee Taft for a fantastic discussion on training movement with athletes. Lee dives right into it giving us his background into how he got into coaching and how he evolved his philosophies and methods of training. This includes how he looks at movements through a biomechanics lens, and idea’s he has “updated” along the way. He also shares with us some issues that he sees with some of the “traditional” methods being used to teach basketball players how to guard their opponents. He then dives down the rabbit hole of “strength”, how the tendons play a role in movement, and how displacement of the pelvis is key. We then touch upon the idea of having a model of what you want movements to look like and how that’s the driving factor behind the general set up for training, and how to modify those models based on different sports, including how the addition of implements in sports changes how they are taught to move.
