What is a Power Promise?
A Power Promise is a promise you make & keep to yourself. It's about having integrity with yourself. It's about building your confidence and truly doing what you say you're going to do.
I wanted to start this podcast and this new DECADE by letting you in on this tool that has helped me stop drinking, lose weight, build confidence, become a better wife, a better person, and restore my faith in what I am capable of achieving.
How many times have you told yourself you'd finally going to start that diet? How many times have you resolved to quit drinking, or read more, or save money? How long have you been stuck in a pattern of starting and not completing what you've promised yourself you'd do?
Most of us keep promises to our friends but then break them continually to ourselves. Why? I am convinced it's because we have lost our confidence and faith with what we are actually capable of doing.
It starts by focusing on one thing!
One promise at a time. We say we're going to hit the gym every day, eat healthy each day, budget monthly…but really it's too much to try to tackle at once. Energy flows where your focus goes. When you shift your focus to one thing, all the rest will fall into place.
My first power promise was made on June 12, 2019. I made a promise to finally stop drinking. I had been trying to do this for years and would be good for a few weeks…but then break the promise to myself. I lost my faith in what I could do. My dear friend Melanie told me about a podcast she just listened to with Chris and Heidi Powell and how they were talking about a Power Promise. She summarized how it worked and the word POWER…that's what did it for me. According to the dictionary, "Power" means "the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events."
We have the capacity, we are blessed with the ability to direct our focus, to influence our behaviors one promise at a time. For me, that started with no alcohol for 30 days. This was my ONLY focus. I was curious about what life would be like on the other side? I thought, "I've lived this way (drinking) for so many years, I wonder how life would be as a non-drinker?"
I just concentrated on one major thing, my Power Promise! If I didn't work out, who cared? That wasn't my promise. If I had a few cigarettes, no big deal. That wasn't my promise. No alcohol was.
And then, something magical happened! I completed the first 30 days and I wanted to keep going!! I was soooo confident I could do another 30 days that I made a second power promise of no alcohol for 36 more days. They say it takes 66 days to create a habit…and I wanted not drinking to become a habit, to become second nature. And it didn't stop there…I passed the 66 day mark and wanted to get to 100 days….then 150…then 200! I am now focused on one year! Habit formed...BOOM!
I have strengthened my confidence muscle which made me curious about what else I could do. So I added another power promise, I staked them. I completed no dairy for 30 days. And…I did it!
Then I got eager to see what else I was capable of doing…I wanted to push myself further. So, I completed this last power promise of doing a Pure Barre On Demand workout for the month of December. And that was amazing!
Now, I am focused on not smoking for 30 days and can't wait to share my results with you!
Be powerful with your promises to yourself. Be impeccable with your words to yourself. Love yourself soooo freaking much that you choose to keep your promise above all else. A power promise can be as short or as long as you want it to be, but I recommend 30 days to start.
I have NO DOUBTS you will be amazed at how confident you will become, how much you can change, what other curiosities this will stir up for you, and what new habits you can create when you focus on your power promise and only that!
What are you curious about?
Love & Light to You & Yours!
