I've done it more than I care to admit. And jokingly, I call it momma's built-in intercom system.
There are times that require an intercom system. There's no way around it. You need to belt out your words to grab their attention. And we do it quite proudly.
However, is that your normal conversing voice with your children? With your husband?
- When it's time to go to school, do you yell 3 or 4 times to get everyone loaded up so you aren't late?
- Is that how you communicate when calling them down for dinner?
- As your children are running around and playing, do you shout out their name and expect them to respond quickly?
You are training yourself, your children, and the family that the only way to live is to be on the edge. Putting the fires out are always the priority.
Drama fills the home with tension and anxiety. No one is relaxed and everyone is frustrated.
Everyone is competing by conversing the loudest, including you, Mom! You have to be loud to be heard and noticed.
All we want in life is to know and be known.
That translates to the fundamental need to be loved. We want to be noticed. We want to be heard.
