First, Major League Baseball made history on August 9th, 2025, when the first female umpire stepped behind the plate. Then, over in the NFL, the Minnesota Vikings introduced their first male cheerleader.

Now, these are being called big breakthroughs, but I’m not sure I’m on board. I’m gonna break down why I may not agree with these changes, how I think tradition plays a role in sports, and why not every headline-making move is automatically the right one.
