Today, I sit down with JT Money, a former Marine Scout Sniper, current government project manager, and vice president of the U.S. Marine Corps Scout Sniper Association. We dive into the origins and mission of this nonprofit organization, which provides vital support for Marine snipers and their families—whether it’s helping them through medical and financial hardship, organizing sniper competitions, or strengthening bonds within this tight-knit community. JT details how small and elite the sniper world is within the Marine Corps, the brutal dropout rates at sniper school, and the brotherhood that comes from surviving that kind of trial.

We also explore JT's personal journey—growing up in rural Mississippi, his unexpected entry into the military, and his five combat deployments to Iraq. He opens up about the highs of being a leader and sniper team chief, as well as the lows of divorce, injury, depression, and identity loss after leaving the service. From working on a Wyoming ranch to restarting his life through the VA’s acquisition internship program, he shows what it takes to rebuild when your old identity no longer fits.

Toward the end, we shift into a powerful conversation about veteran suicide. JT shares that over 20 men he’s known have taken their lives, and we break down the cultural, psychological, and leadership factors that contribute to this crisis. We talk about finding your tribe, rediscovering purpose, and why letting go of ego is key to thriving after the military.
