Today, I sit down with Mr. Michael W. Allison, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Purple Heart recipient, father, and business leader. Mr. Allison shares his powerful journey from enlisting in the military after a football injury derailed his college dreams, to experiencing the horrors of combat in Iraq—including losing close friends and surviving an IED blast that changed his life forever. He opens up about the emotional aftermath, from hypervigilance to delayed PTSD treatment, and the decision to transition out of the Marines to be present for his family.

Mr. Allison describes how his post-military life was marked by struggle, confusion, and a lack of direction—a common story among veterans. But through adversity, he built the Adversity Academy, offering personal and business development for fellow veterans and professionals. He also shares lessons learned from his roles in construction, IT contracting, and managing logistics for railroads, which all fed into his mission to equip others with tools for transformation and leadership.

This episode dives deep into the mental health crisis in the military and veteran communities, the importance of speaking up, and how mentorship and purpose can be life-saving. Mr. Allison’s story is one of pain, resilience, and powerful reinvention.
