Hey there, folks! Time for your Florida coastal waters weather report brought to you by the National Weather Service in Miami.
For the Atlantic coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Ocean Reef and the Gulf waters from East Cape Sable to Chokoloskee, here's the scoop:
We've got some strong and near gale force easterly winds hanging around, so expect choppy waters with building seas. Over in the Gulf waters, prepare for fresh to strong easterly breezes, possibly gearing up to gale force, all thanks to Hurricane Rafael making its way towards the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. Stay sharp out there, a Tropical Storm Warning is waving hello for the outer Gulf waters.
On the Atlantic side, small craft advisory is in place through Thursday evening. Today, east winds blowing at 20 to 25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots, kicking up seas to 6 to 8 feet, occasionally reaching 10 feet. Be ready for a chance of showers and maybe a rumble of thunder.
Tonight, those winds will strengthen to 25 to 30 knots with seas up to 11 feet. Keep an eye out for rough waters. Thursday will bring slightly calmer conditions with winds easing to 15 to 20 knots and seas subsiding a bit.
And for those planning to head out towards Lake Okeechobee or Biscayne Bay, be mindful of the Small Craft Advisory in effect through Thursday evening. Winds and choppy waters will keep you company, along with a chance of showers.
