Hey there folks, welcome to your coastal waters weather update for Florida brought to you by the National Weather Service in Miami on this fine Friday, November 1, 2024.
So, for those sailors out there, it looks like we've got some interesting conditions on our hands. On the Atlantic side from Jupiter Inlet to Ocean Reef, expect a moderate to fresh east-northeast breeze sticking around through the weekend. Sounds like it's time to batten down the hatches as high pressure is flexing its muscles, bringing hazardous marine conditions. Over on the Gulf side, from East Cape Sable to Chokoloskee, winds will be gusty and seas will be elevated, so caution is advised.
Heads up for those venturing into the Gulf Stream - sustained winds of 20 to 30 knots and seas reaching up to 6 to 8 feet. Those are no small numbers!
For the specifics, along the coast from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach and from Deerfield Beach to Ocean Reef, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect until Saturday morning. Today, expect east winds of 15 to 20 knots with seas ranging from 4 to 5 feet, occasionally up to 6 feet. Choppy waters are in store, so hold on tight!
Looking ahead, the weekend doesn't bring much relief. The breeze stays strong with a chance of showers popping up on Saturday night. Brace yourselves for some rough seas, especially on Sunday night through Monday.
For those near Lake Okeechobee, exercise caution as well. Winds will be picking up through the weekend, so keep an eye out if you're planning some time on the water.
And last but not least, for the seafarers in Biscayne Bay, expect choppy waters today with those easterly winds. Things will get rough on Sunday through Monday night, so prepare accordingly.
