Well, howdy there folks, it's time for a coastal waters forecast for the beautiful state of Florida, brought to you by the National Weather Service in Miami. Let's dive into what Mother Nature has in store for us!
For the Atlantic coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Ocean Reef and the Gulf coastal waters from East Cape Sable to Chokoloskee, we've got generally light surface winds hanging around through the weekend. Some thunderstorms may pop up, so keep an eye out for brief periods of locally strong winds and rough seas.
Good news, no Gulf Stream hazards to worry about! The Gulf Stream's western wall is just a stone's throw away from various spots along the coast. Thanks to the Naval Oceanographic Office for that tidbit!
Moving on to specifics - for the waters near Deerfield Beach, expect some northerly winds around 5 to 10 knots today, with seas cruising around 2 feet. A chance of showers and thunderstorms may roll in, but nothing too menacing. Tonight, conditions remain fairly steady, and the trend continues through the weekend with relatively calm waters.
If you're out near Lake Okeechobee, plan for some nice northerly winds at about 5 to 10 knots today, creating light choppy waters. Keep an eye out for afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
And for all you Biscayne Bay enthusiasts, today's forecast looks promising with winds shifting from the north to northeast, plus a slight chance of showers in the afternoon. The waters there will be as smooth as can be, great for a leisurely boat ride!
As we head into next week, expect things to ramp up a bit with stronger easterly winds and an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms. Be prepared for seas up to 5 feet in certain areas.
