Coastal Waters Forecast: Tropical Conditions Brewing in South Florida

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a comprehensive coastal waters forecast for Florida, highlighting an active weather pattern across Atlantic and Gulf coastal regions. A gentle south to southwesterly wind flow is expected to persist throughout the weekend, accompanied by scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms.

Mariners and coastal residents should be particularly attentive to potential hazardous conditions developing within thunderstorm activity. The Gulf Stream currently maintains a predictable position, with its west wall located approximately 9 nautical miles southeast of Fowey Rocks and 7 nautical miles east of Port Everglades.

Wave conditions remain relatively moderate, with most areas experiencing seas around 2 feet and winds ranging between 5 to 10 knots. Intracoastal waters are anticipated to have light chop, providing relatively calm navigational conditions for smaller vessels.

The forecast indicates increasing thunderstorm likelihood, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. Areas from Jupiter Inlet to Ocean Reef and East Cape Sable to Bonita Beach can expect intermittent precipitation and potential electrical storm activity.

Lake Okeechobee and Biscayne Bay will also experience similar weather patterns, with south winds and a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Boaters and water enthusiasts should monitor local conditions and be prepared for rapidly changing weather.

As the week progresses, wind directions are expected to shift gradually from southerly to southeasterly and eventually easterly, with potential sea height increases to 2-4 feet by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mariners are advised to stay informed and exercise caution, as localized thunderstorm activity can create unpredictable wind and sea conditions.
