Coastal Waters Forecast Highlights Potential Maritime Conditions for Florida
The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a comprehensive coastal waters forecast for Florida, highlighting dynamic marine conditions expected over the upcoming weekend and early week.
A moderate to fresh southeasterly wind flow will dominate coastal and offshore waters, with winds ranging from 10 to 20 knots and occasional gusts up to 25 knots. Mariners should anticipate choppy conditions across multiple marine zones including Atlantic coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Ocean Reef and Gulf coastal waters from East Cape Sable to Bonita Beach.
Seas are expected to range between 2 to 5 feet, with wave periods varying from 4 to 6 seconds. Specific areas like Biscayne Bay will experience moderate chop, while Lake Okeechobee will see light to moderate lake waters.
Weather patterns indicate scattered thunderstorm potential, particularly late today around Lake Okeechobee and Gulf waters. Precipitation chances will increase across local waters late this weekend and into early next week, with higher probabilities of showers and thunderstorms Monday through Tuesday.
The Gulf Stream's west wall has been precisely located by the Naval Oceanographic Office, positioned south of key coastal landmarks including Fowey Rocks, Port Everglades, Lake Worth, and Jupiter Inlet.
Small craft operators are advised to exercise caution due to potentially challenging maritime conditions. Wind directions will gradually shift from southeastern to southern and eventually transitioning to western and northwestern flows by midweek.
Intracoastal waters will experience varying levels of choppiness, particularly in exposed areas, with marine conditions expected to moderate toward midweek.
