Coastal Waters Forecast: Southeast Winds and Small Craft Advisory in Effect
Mariners and coastal residents can expect challenging maritime conditions across Florida's coastal waters this weekend. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until late morning, with strong southeasterly winds impacting marine areas from Jupiter Inlet to Ocean Reef and throughout the Gulf coastal regions.
The Gulf Stream presents additional hazards, with winds ranging 20-25 knots through late morning. The stream's western wall is currently positioned near strategic maritime landmarks including one nautical mile northeast of Fowey Rocks and seven nautical miles east of Port Everglades.
Coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach will experience southeast winds of 15-20 knots today, generating seas 3-4 feet with occasional heights reaching 5 feet. Wave patterns include southeast waves at 4 feet with 6-second intervals. Intracoastal waters will remain choppy in exposed areas.
Further south, the Gulf coastal waters from Chokoloskee to Bonita Beach will see similar conditions with southeast winds 10-15 knots and potential gusts up to 25 knots. Seas will maintain 2-3 foot heights with southeast waves at 3-4 feet.
Biscayne Bay is under the Small Craft Advisory, experiencing southeast winds 15-20 knots today, gradually diminishing to 10-15 knots in the afternoon. Choppy water conditions are anticipated.
Looking ahead, winds are expected to shift and moderate over the next few days, with potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms midweek. Boaters and maritime interests should continue monitoring updated forecasts and exercise caution during these dynamic conditions.
