Tropical Weather Brewing Off Florida's Coast: Boaters Advised to Stay Alert
A developing tropical system is set to impact coastal waters from Flagler Beach to Jupiter Inlet, bringing potential maritime challenges this weekend. Tropical Depression Three is currently positioned northeast of the local Atlantic region, tracking toward the Carolinas by early Sunday.
A weak surface boundary extending from the depression to Central Florida will generate rounds of rain and thunderstorms throughout the weekend. Boaters should anticipate variable wind and sea conditions, with southwest winds ranging from 5 to 15 knots across different marine zones.
Sea conditions will be moderately rough, with wave heights varying between 2 to 5 feet, occasionally reaching 6 feet in offshore areas. The Gulf Stream's western wall is positioned strategically offshore, ranging from 9 to 46 nautical miles east of various coastal inlets.
Weekend marine forecasts highlight increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms, particularly during afternoon hours. Wind patterns will shift from northwest to southwest, with south winds becoming predominant by Sunday. Intracoastal waters will experience anything from mostly smooth to moderate chop conditions.
By early next week, high-pressure systems building northward from the Caribbean will improve boating conditions. Tuesday should bring more favorable maritime weather as the high-pressure axis lifts toward Central Florida.
Mariners are strongly advised to monitor changing weather conditions, remain vigilant for potential thunderstorm development, and prioritize safety while navigating coastal and offshore waters.
