Good morning, East Central Florida! It's time to check in on your coastal waters forecast for today, April 11th, 2024. I hope you're all ready to ride the waves of information with me!
For those of you planning a day out on the water from Flagler Beach to Jupiter Inlet out to 60 nautical miles, here's what you can expect:
We're looking at some hazardous to dangerous boating conditions today as southerly winds pick up speed, reaching 25 to 30 knots ahead of an approaching cold front. Gale-force wind gusts are forecast offshore north of Sebastian Inlet. So, be extra cautious out there, folks!
The cold front will be passing through the local Atlantic this afternoon, veering winds towards the southwest. Offshore-moving showers and lightning storms could make an appearance, with a few possibly becoming strong to severe. But don't worry, drier conditions are on the horizon as high pressure builds into the weekend, gradually improving boating conditions.
And for those of you near the Gulf Stream, we're talking about south winds hitting 20 to 30 knots with gusts to gale force, creating seas measuring 6 to 8 feet.
Now, zooming into the Flagler Beach to Volusia-Brevard County Line area, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect through this evening. Today, expect south winds of 20 to 25 knots, becoming southwest later, with seas ranging from 4 to 6 feet and occasional heights up to 7 feet. Keep an eye out for a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
But fear not, friends! Conditions are set to improve with west winds tonight and northwest winds on Friday, calming the seas to 2 to 3 feet by the afternoon. The weekend looks more promising, with north winds and decreasing wave heights.
Remember, winds and waves can be higher in and near thunderstorms, so always stay weather-aware!
