Good morning, East Central Florida! It's time for your coastal waters forecast brought to you by the National Weather Service in Melbourne, FL.
For all you folks out there planning some boating adventures, you'll want to pay attention to the conditions out on the water. South to southwesterly winds are on the rise, bringing in some poor to hazardous boating conditions. Be prepared for a cold front moving in tonight, which will bring in some windy conditions, scattered to numerous showers, isolated strong to severe lightning storms, and yes, you guessed it, more poor to hazardous boating conditions. But don't worry, things should start to improve by Friday.
If you're cruising along the Gulf Stream, watch out for southerly winds at 20 to 25 knots with occasional gusts up to 35 knots and seas ranging from 5 to 7 feet.
Now, let's break it down for some specific areas:
- For Flagler Beach to Volusia-Brevard County Line 0-20 nm, small craft should exercise caution this morning. Southwest winds will be blowing at 15 to 20 knots, transitioning to west later. Seas will be around 3 to 4 feet, with occasional seas up to 5 feet. Expect showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
- Moving on to Sebastian Inlet to Jupiter Inlet 0-20 nm, a similar story with southwest winds at 15 to 20 knots and seas around 3 to 4 feet. Showers likely in the evening with a chance of thunderstorms.
- And for Flagler Beach to Volusia-Brevard County Line 20-60 nm, we have a small craft advisory in effect through late tonight. Southwest winds at 20 to 25 knots will be the highlight along with seas ranging from 4 to 6 feet with occasional peaks at 7 feet. Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon.
Remember, winds and waves can be higher in and near thunderstorms, so keep an eye out for those.
