3/17 - Follow Me | Confess Your Cross

This week, co-lead pastor Alex Leyva closed our sermon series on "Follow Me: What It Means to Be a Disciple of Jesus" with the passage Luke 9:18-27. Whenever we make decisions, we way the cost of what it means. But do we count the cost in what it means to follow Jesus? In this passage, we see that Jesus asks his followers to confess Christ, who is the Messiah. But, Jesus isn't only the Messiah—he's also the Son of Man (Dan. 7:14) and the Suffering Servant (Isa. 53). Knowing and believing in who Christ is, we can then carry our cross to follow after him. 

Jesus gives his followers three challenges: (1) deny self, (2) lose life and (3) forfeit everything. When we do this, we find full freedom in Jesus. Following Jesus could cost your pride, control, finances, or any number of things you cling to. But praise God—he is WORTH the cost!
