Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Dr. Jemima Organ, member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, who shares some of her personal background as a counselor helping people struggling with things like low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, stress, and co-dependency, who then made the connection for how Motivational Interviewing could be used as a tool in an organizational and corporate setting for servant leadership.
During the interview, Dr. Organ defines Motivational Interviewing, which is a person-centered strategy and counseling approach that elicits patient motivation to change a specific behavior, talks about her experiences with Motivational Interviewing, and then discusses how she made the connection to servant leadership while going through her doctorate program.
She shares some of the different ways Motivational Interviewing can be used in an organizational setting, some open ended questions to ask, the importance of having leadership engaged in the process, and why it works well to engage employees in the process of problem solving versus simply telling them what to do.
