Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Nikki Walker, Executive Director of East Nashville Hope Exchange who highlights the Nashville, Tennessee-based nonprofit organization and their mission and efforts to strengthen children's literacy through the exchange of knowledge and support among families and the East Nashville community to affirm the right to read for all. East Nashville Hope Exchange provides a supportive, structured and safe environment where children can learn, have fun, and thrive.
During the interview, Nikki shares some of the history for the organization and how it began as an outreach program of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, then became an independent 501(c)(3) in 2010. She discusses why focusing on increasing youth literacy rates is so important and the ripple impact it creates in the community. Nikki then details their School Year Program and their Summer Literacy Camp, along with some of the different resources provided to children and their families. She talks about how the community can get involved through volunteerism and upcoming events, including their 22nd Annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction on April 25, 2025. Nikki wraps up sharing plans to expand in the future and how finding a long-term partner for their Summer Literacy Camp can help make a difference in the lives of more than a hundred local children.
