Last week I had a moment while training some kids that there seems to be a few old school skills that are lacking in today's youth. More often than not, kids play a variety of sports every weekend but can't seem to jump rope, do a forward roll, perform a proper lunge or hit a few pushups. These gaps in their development will eventually show up in the form of injury or burnout. These are two things that we want to avoid!
When building a solid structure, it is important to lay down a proper foundation. There can not be any holes or gaps in the material. The same concept can be applied to building a strong, resilient child. You start with the foundation and from there, continually build on top of what you've previously done.
In this episode, I discuss four areas associated with physical literacy and how and when they should be implemented into a child's schedule based on their skill and development.
