The Justin Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is a wine I found selling for $12.99; the list price is $18. This is a wine that is widely available from supermarkets to wine shops.
The Story
There was a Justin (Justin Baldwin), but he sold the winery to The Wonderful Company in 2010. The Wonderful Company is not your typical wine seller.
They own several high-end wineries in addition to Justin, but are also very brand-oriented, owning Fiji Water, POM Wonderful, Halos oranges/tangerines, Teleflora, Wonderful Pistachios, and more.
The Justin Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2023 was sourced from vineyards in multiple Central Coast AVA locations. The 2023 vintage had an extended growing season, and most of the year was almost too cool; would the grapes fully ripen? But a late heat spell nicely finished the grapes off.
This Sauvignon Blanc was pressed with whole clusters. Whole clusters mean the stems and all are loaded into the press. This is a technique often used in expensive Pinot Noir. It is believed that the entire cluster releases all of its flavor.
This wine is 100% Sauvignon Blanc and was fermented and aged in stainless steel vats. Wine Spectator issed this wine 91 points.
The alcohol content is 13.5%.
The Justin Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2023 Tasting Notes
The color is pale, sunshine yellow. The nose is peach, lemon, apple, and orange blossom honey, along with coconut, nectarine, and a floral halo. The Justin Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2023 sleek, subtle Sauvignon Blanc with a touch of complexity.
This Sauvignon Blanc tastes like a stew of Green apple, peach, lemon curd, and honey. There is tropical fruit, spice, and orange zest, with stone fruit.
The acidity is well managed, giving the flavors the structure to unfold.
