School Heroes: Supporting the People Who Support Our Kids

Sometimes, the best way to understand a community is to look at how it cares for the people who care for its kids.

In this episode, we're focused on the people who show up daily for our kids: educators. The ones who stock their classrooms out of their pockets, shoulder their students’ burdens, and rarely get the time or resources to care for themselves. 

Ielaf Altoma-Stead, Senior Partnership Manager for The Change Reaction, introduces us to two outstanding people who are making a difference for LA's kids every day: Virginia Lee from Partnership for LA Schools shares what they're doing for educators, especially those in their first, most vulnerable years in the classroom. We're also joined by Principal Yumi Kawosaki, of Markham Middle School, in LA's Watts neighborhood, who shares how she helped bring a Wellness Room for teachers and administrators to life, how it’s changing the culture on campus, and why something as simple as a massage chair can lead to something as big as teacher retention in one of LA's most challenged communities.
