There have been many celebrities that were active birdwatchers.  Judy Walker, a longtime local ornithologist & member of the Mecklenburg Audubon Society, chats with host Bill Bartee about the growth of birdwatching over the past decade.  However, first they talk about the many scientists, artists, leaders, & musicians that are recognized as birders.

The Carolina Outdoor host, from the sponsor outfitter store in Charlotte , Jesse Brown's, lists several from the site Binocular Base

This list includes Sir Paul McCartney, Presidents Jimmy Carter & FDR.  Einstein, Prince Phillip, Fidel Castro, & Mick Jagger all enjoyed birds.  Walker added a special two to the list.  Check it out below in the Segment Highlights below.

Segment Highlights:

Judy Walker added Amy Tan, author of the Backyard Bird Chronicles, & James Bond, a friend of author Ian Fleming, and the inspiration of the character name for 007, to the celebrity list.

President Jimmy Carter & his wife Rosaline had a list of 11oo birds over their life over the past decade.

Technology has allowed more people to participate in birdwatching easily

Apps on phones include EBIRD & Cornell Lab have helped a ton.

People encounter birds everywhere: Backyard, trips, the beach, & more

Young people are joining the ranks of birdwatching.  Many have continued interest in wildlife watching

The local members of the club are called, "Mecklenbirders".
