Schizophrenia – a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects a person’s ability to think, feel, and behave clearly
2.4 million American adults are affected with Schizophrenia
0.9% of the world’s population are affected
African Americans are diagnosed with Schizophrenia 5 times more frequently than any other ethnic group.
Symptoms of Schizophrenia usually start between the ages of 16 – 30. In rare cases, children have Schizophrenia too.
Symptoms are typically separated into 3 categories: 1) Positive Symptoms
2) Negative Symptoms and 3) Cognitive Symptoms
Positive Symptoms – delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thoughts and speech, agitated body movements
