In 2006, Mongolian model Shaariibuugiin Altantuyaa traveled to Malaysia, where she was kidnapped and murdered by two police officers allegedly under orders from Abdul Razak Baginda, a defense analyst, and close associate of Malaysia's then Deputy Prime Minister, Najib Razak. Altantuyaa, who had threatened to expose corruption tied to a French arms deal, was shot and blown up with C4 explosives. Although Baginda and Najib were implicated, they escaped punishment, while the two officers received death sentences. Political fallout from the case lingered, with Najib later convicted on related corruption charges in 2021.
