In 2000, Australian astrophysicist Rodney Marks died mysteriously at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, initially thought to be from natural causes. However, an autopsy revealed that he had ingested a lethal amount of methanol. Investigations led by New Zealand police officer Grant Wormold faced resistance from the U.S. National Science Foundation, which hindered efforts to collect evidence and contact witnesses. Four possible causes were considered: suicide, accidental methanol consumption, deliberate poisoning, or a drug-related incident. Despite years of inquiry, the case remains unsolved, and it is unclear whether Rodney's death was an accident or murder.
