The Hinterkaifeck farm murders, one of Germany's most chilling unsolved cases, occurred in 1922. It began when the Gruber family and their maid reported hearing strange noises in the attic and experiencing odd occurrences, such as disappearing keys and unexplained footsteps. Despite these signs of danger, life continued until March 31st, when the entire family—Andreas Gruber, his wife Cäzilia, their daughter Viktoria, and two grandchildren, along with their maid—were brutally murdered with a sharp object, likely an axe. The bodies were discovered days later, covered with various items, suggesting that the killer had stayed at the farm for several days after the murders, tending to the animals and maintaining the household.

The investigation uncovered peculiar details: rumors of incest between Andreas and Viktoria, suspicions toward Viktoria’s admirer Lorenz Schlittenbauer, and unexplained supernatural theories involving the ghost of Viktoria’s husband, Karl. Despite multiple theories and suspects, no one was ever arrested, and the case remains unsolved. To this day, the mystery of Hinterkaifeck haunts German history, with the farmhouse long gone and the victims' bodies having mysteriously disappeared during World War II.
