The Catholic church calls certain dead people "saints".
But the saints, according to the Bible, are those people who belong to God whether living or dead. They are not appointed as saints by other men but rather they are the ones who are chosen by God and put into the church by God, having the spirit of God.
We, the church, who belong to God are the saints, according to the New Testament Bible.
Paul says:
II Corinthians 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:
The "saints" are the church.
