“Nothing in the universe is contingent, but all things are conditioned to exist and operate in a particular manner by the necessity of the divine nature”. - Baruch Spinoza There are many triggers or disturbing stimuli in our various environment situations that we have become conditioned to and that we respond out of habit to even if the response makes no sense. Many of us learn fear from our parents and other well meaning people in our lives. We were taught to fear strangers for example. The response to avoid strangers served us as children. But many of us still have this same fear of strangers as adults and it interferes with our abilities to build a business, make cold calls and network. We can change our conditioned responses when we make the practice of relaxing instead of responding. We can use visualization to practice our new response ahead of time so it is ready when we need it. During this process it might be difficult to ignore the stimuli, especially if it is triggered unexpectedly. In this case you can achieve the same result by delaying your response. Delaying the response breaks up and interferes with the automatic response. It can be as easy as counting to 10 when you are tempted to use your conditioned response.
