It is human nature to prefer things that are comfortable, familiar, or safe.  We feel more like ourselves in familiar surroundings. Our personal comfort zones are as unique as we are.  However, not all comfort zones are actually comfortable.

Comfort zones can also be explained as familiar feelings.  These feelings are from a long term association or feelings we have grown accustomed to and tend to repeat.

For instance, some may even become so accustomed to pain or grief. It may seem unimaginable, but it can feel emotionally safer holding onto pain, rather than letting it go and moving forward. At times, we even choose  to stay in our pain because it feels more predictable than the unknown that lies ahead.

You must understand that in order to move forward, there are some things that must end.

The Children of Israel faced this when the mourned the death of Moses and Aaron. In both of these situations, Israel’s mourning had to end before they moved forward into the promised land.

The goal is not to set a time line for grief, rather than understand that at some point that pain will eventually have to reach a point where you are able to move forward into the future. Letting go of the pain or grief is not about letting someone get away with hurting us or no longer loving someone who has passed, but it is releasing the pain that has kept us immobile for too long.

In this episode, we explore “necessary endings” more in-depth while reminding the listener that God will help them transition from pain to promise.

Let’s keep building!
