Self-image is the personal view, or mental picture, that we have of ourselves. It’s an “internal dictionary” that describes the characteristics we feel about ourself, including both positive and negative feelings.
This “internal dictionary” begins developing when we are very young. Each positive and negative life event adds to our “mental” dictionary. These entires become “thought patterns” that govern our lives.
Why does self-image matter?
Because how we feel impacts our lives in some way:
Mentally… how we think.
Emotionally… how we feel.
Physically… how we respond.
Relationally… how we connect to others.
Spiritually… how we respond to God.
The enemy uses our negative thought-patterns to attack our minds. Recognizing and embracing what God has done for you will help you break free from the cycle of negative thoughts that have been controlling your life.
